Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 VL Build 4639 En-US 64 Bit.Microsoft has cut off hundreds of European websites that use its online ad system because of concerns that the company's anti-fraud system might have been hacked, a company spokeswoman told Reuters on Thursday.
Microsoft is investigating what caused the shutdown and said it was working with the website operators, many of which are small businesses, to get them reinstated.
The websites are using the Windows Live Advertiser platform, which partners with Microsoft to help publishers monetize their sites through advertising.
Many of the affected websites were not active for more than a year and continued to display ads despite the shutdown. Several had temporarily stopped accepting new advertisers after the shutdown.
"It's always extremely painful for us to see any of our customers or partners affected," said Microsoft spokeswoman Shayla Taylor. "This is a very high priority for us to resolve the issue as quickly as possible."
On Monday, Microsoft's Adcenter business unit said it would immediately close down one of its ad platforms for "user experience" reasons after a security expert privately disclosed that it had been hacked, leaving advertisers with the impression that their account was being spied on.
The company said it was notifying advertisers and would begin contacting them by email.
The Adcenter business unit said it shut down the Advertiser platform and other AdCenter services, which are used to advertise or manage other online services, including the Bing search engine.
The Web hosting provider GoDaddy.com said on Wednesday that it had been hit by a similar attack and also shut down the Advertiser platform and other AdCenter services, before returning the service to the public.
In both cases, however, GoDaddy says it was not hacked and had not received any threatening emails from criminals.Q:
